Craft To Help Australian Wildlife

The Delaware City Library is proud to work with Relief Crafters of America and Australia’s Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild to collect and ship handmade items to help animals rescued from Australia’s brushfires. Knit, sew, or crochet any of the items listed in the graphic below, drop them off at the library, and we’ll send them along! Patterns for needed items are linked below. Please use the pattern designs as written, as they are approved by various rescue groups for use. The patterns link contains information on acceptable fabrics and yarn as well as other helpful information, so please review before crafting! Once clicked, you can find patterns by craft (needle or loom knitting, sewing, or crocheting), by clicking the tabs at the top of the doc.

Before you drop off your makes, please make sure your items are laundered in perfume/dye-free detergents or vinegar (1/2-1 cup of white vinegar per large laundry load) and are as hair-free as possible (both pet and human). No dryer sheets or fabric softeners. Also, please include a list of what you’re dropping off along with sizes and materials used and use only NEW and CLEAN large clear plastic bags to group like items in before sending/dropping off. If shipping to us, please remember to also use new and clean cardboard and packing material.

Our collection of your handmade items will have an initial 4-week run. Only items from New Castle County are accepted at this time, but stay tuned for any updates or possible changes. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us and we’ll help as much as we can! For the most up-to-date information, please follow our Facebook page.

Happy crafting!
