Speaker Ron Whittington presents a first-person portrayal of William Owen, a free black man from Milford, Delaware. Owen tells the story of hearing Frederick Douglass speak and deciding to become a part of the 54th Massachusetts, the renowned first black regiment to fight in the Civil War.
